Spring was coming. So the first theme for this semester was Spring.
The students were taught about the various holiday celebrations that take place during the season of spring. In China, spring marks the beginning of a new year, hence why there is a celebration called Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. We also explored the different holidays celebrated in other countries such as in Japan with Cherry blossom viewing, also known as Hanami.
We looked into the changes to the weather during spring and how nature such as plants spring forth. The students were also taught the names of flowers that bloom in spring, such as tulips and daffodils. Also, students were introduced to animals that are born in spring, such as foxes, otters, white tailed dears and black bears.
The students were encouraged to write a composition about spring after learning all about the season, its celebrations and changes that comes with it. Students had a great time learning all about spring and carry out further research to share with the class as a form of a display worksheet for all to see and read. It was fun and engaging topic.
