Scientists and Amber Fossil

作者/来源:Grade5 Amy Mao    发布时间:2021-05-24

There are two dinosaur scientists. One is named Tommy, a middle-aged, chubby, honest man with a round red face. The other is his assistant, a cruel and grim looking woman, Vicky.

It’s an early spring morning, though dark clouds are thundering cross the sky, Tommy and Vicky are in their laboratory. They have just received a piece of amber fossil from their archaeology team. They are observing it very carefully. They put on special goggles and pull on experimental gloves. They lean forward, narrow their eyes, and examine it. There is a mosquito in it. The mosquito has some blood with it, but which animal does the blood belongs to? Tommy says: “Let’s do a DNA test, please bring me the test equipment, Vicky.”

“All right.” She answers with her high, cold, nasty voice. Very soon, she returns with a trolley full of weird materials, and hands them to Tommy.

“Thanks.” He says and begins to doing strange things. He squints here and there, adds different gears on the machine, changes chemical tubes and etc. He mutters: “It must be a huge reptile.”

Suddenly, he exclaims: “Oh my god, it’s a dinosaur’s! That means we will know more

It’s pouring rain outside, and something is going on in the shadows inside.

By further testing results, they find out that there was a very dangerous virus on the amber fossil. So, Tommy says with excitement: “Vicky, sterilize it, please.”

Though Vicky thinks: “I will not sterilize it. I will let Tommy get this disease, then I can clone dinosaurs by myself and I will sell them out. So I can be a billionaire!”
So Vicky fakes to sterilize the amber fossil and gives it to Tommy. Unfortunately, Tommy doesn’t notices it. Tommy studies it very hard and carefully. He works on it day and night.  He writes all the test facts down on his notebook. However, Vicky is doing work hastily.

Vicky has a cunning, scientist friend too. Her friend tells her to let this disease more serious, you need to let Tommy to do much exercise every day. That causes great harm to his lungs and heart system.  So Vicky tells Tommy to jog or run every day. She says: “Oh, my dear. Don’t always be stuck in your turtle shell laboratory. Go out and breathe fresh air. Don’t always sit and not move, it hurts your muscles and bones.” Tommy agrees.
A week later, Tommy is in the laboratory. He, with both hands on his stomach is grimacing in agony. “Don’t know, Vicky.” His words are a hiss, barely audible. “Bad aches here. Think it’s something I eat but…”

He stops as a fresh spasm of pain hit him. He faints. When he wakes up, he finds himself lying on a bed in the hospital. Vicky is there, pretending to be innocent. He sighs: “What a day. I have not finished my research!”

Luckily, his intelligent scientist wife invents some medicine for this disease. Tommy becomes better. His wife says in relief: “It’s so close!”

And what about Vicky?  She fails to clone the Velociraptor, but creates a big explosion which alerts the police.  She gets caught because of her wrong doing, and needs to spend many years in jail.

Fortunately, the fossil which changes two scientists’ destinies isn’t damaged in the explosion. And Tommy finishes his science research and becomes very famous.
