The theme ‘I love China’ fits perfectly with the multiple national holidays scheduled between September and October, including the Mid-Autumn Festival and China’s National Day. As is part of Shengda’s tradition, all students and teachers received a box of moon cakes in advance of the festival to share with their friends and family.
Students were first introduced to the ‘I love China’ theme through the subtopic of Chinese food as food remains a key part of Chinese culture and civilisation, both historically and in present. In the classroom, students were positively encouraged and were eager to engage and share their knowledge of China and Chinese food. Students are gradually progressing in their English oral expression in a variety of applications and an emphasis was placed on practical language that would be useful throughout their lives.
A diverse range of Chinese foods were introduced from Northern China to the south in Guangdong province and in the west from Sichuan province to the east in Shanghainese cuisine. Students were genuinely excited to share their wealth of knowledge and reinforced their love for Chinese food and China. A selection of students also shared that they can cook Chinese dishes, which was very impressive for their age.
Various decorations and thematic elements throughout the school, corridor walls, and classrooms ensure Shengda students can fully immerse in the topic of ‘I love China’ both visually and verbally when participating in class and activities. The semester will engage students to write a composition and decorate classrooms and the school with display posters on the subtopics of Chinese food and Chinese provinces.
During the following weeks, Shengda will introduce more subtopics that follow the ‘I love China’ theme which engages students with more fun content and activities through Chinese provinces, Chinese inventions, Chinese architecture, and Chinese media.
We wish all families and teachers of Shengda a joyous and festive holiday period.
