For the first major topic of the year, students will explore China related content. The goal is for students to study and discover what they love most about China, in order to synthesize the material and create a classroom display.
The first subtopic revolves around Chinese food. Students are encouraged to read, write, and speak concerning typical Chinese foods. In addition, they will have investigated the cooking methods about each food, such as Beijing duck and hot pot.
After, students will have examined typical Chinese festivals. This includes the Spring and Mid-Autumn Festivals. Also, students will have looked into the specific traditions that accompany these festivals, plus the ways we celebrate them.
Next, students will have inquired as to well known Chinese inventions. This entails the kite, the clock, the compass, and tea. The aim is to peak students interest in Chinese cultural and scientific innovations.
At last, students will have delved into a number of Chinese provinces. This includes provinces from north to south, such as Guangdong and Sichuan. The intent is to have students take an interest in China’s diverse geographic features.
The student’s classroom display is intended to be a combination of all the above mentioned theme elements. They are encouraged to show their creativity and unique outlook on the theme work!
