Our semester has continued with the topic ‘Sport’. Within this topic, students have explored The Olympics and Hockey. The main aim for this topic is for students to think about some of their favourite sports and apply it in their work. These things will then be collated onto individual posters and displayed.

   ‘Sport’ is divided into two sub-categories. The first of these sub-categories is all about The Olympics. Students will be introduced to some new Olympic sports, including the history of the Olympics and will be encouraged to also talk and write about their own that they know. In Grade four they will look at The Olympics in general, including history, torch relay race, events, medals and hosting. In Grade five they will look at The Summer Olympics and The Winter Olympics separately, including history, decathlon, swimming, kayaking, dressage, biathlon, slalom, bobsledding and curling.

   The second of these sub-categories is all about Hockey. In Grade four, students will be introduced to the game of hockey, including history, game rules, equipment, positions and leagues and again, will be encouraged to also talk and write about their own that they know.
