We are excited to announce that our semester has commenced with a captivating focus on the topic of ‘Art’. Throughout this exploration, students will delve into various themes including ‘The Principles of Art and Design’, ‘What is Art?’, ‘Famous Paintings and Painters’, and ‘Performing Arts’. The primary objective of this topic is to introduce students to the diverse backgrounds and forms of art, inspiring them to consider what types of art they might like to try or explore further. The culmination of their learning will be showcased through individual posters displayed for all to appreciate.
The ‘Art’ topic is divided into four key sub-categories:
1. The Principles of Art and Design: Students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of both art and design. They will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on their existing knowledge. In Grade Four, students will focus on ‘What are the Elements of Art?’ and ‘What are the Principles of Design?’.
2. What is Art?: This section aims to introduce students to basic concepts surrounding art. They will be encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas about art as well. Grade Four students will explore questions such as ‘What is Art Anyway?’, ‘Where Does Art Come From?’, ‘Art Tells Stories’, ‘Art in Buildings’, ‘Art as a Job’, ‘The Rise of Painting’, and many more.
3. Performance Art: In this sub-category, students will discover various forms of performance art and their purposes. They will also share their own experiences with performance arts. In Grade Five, students will investigate topics like ‘What is Performance Art?’, ‘Dance’, ‘Music’, ‘Theatre’, ‘Circus Arts’, and ‘Abstract and Endurance Art’.
4. Famous Artists and Artwork: Students will be introduced to renowned artists and their significant works. They will discuss and write about artists they admire. In Grade Five, the focus will be on ‘Famous Artists and Art’, including influential figures such as Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ezra Jack Keats, and Georgia O’Keeffe.
