This month, we held a series of activities about the theme “Save the planet”.

Teaching children at a young age to be environmentally aware, we wanted to help them adopt lifelong habits that could make a big difference in the future of the earth. Students were guided in their learning about the various issues associated with our environment such as methods for reducing waste, recycling tips and ideas, facts about land and sea pollution and some endangered animal species.

The aim of this theme work was to teach students that they can do things as individuals and also find ways to work together to lessen the bad impact we all have on our environment. Teachers helped them understand the meaning and importance of 3R: reduce, reuse and recycle. They’ve learnt that practicing all three of these activities every day is not only important for healthy environment, but at the same time it can be fun too.

To help students embrace the idea of recycling teachers first encouraged them to take part in the recycling activity as a collective. They were invited to sort out school’s waste into different boxes in order to gain some practical experience by actively participating in the recycling process. Furthermore, students did art project and used different waste such as paper boxes, plastic bottles, cans, card boards and ice cream sticks as material to create beautiful toys all by themselves. By incorporating materials that would otherwise be thrown away into some art pieces they’ve learnt how to find new uses for these items and to turn their trash into something new and useful.

This was a valuable lesson for our students and they have all understood that is very important not only to take care of their environment, but also not to waste resources that we have.
