Due to students studying at home because of quarantine, they did self-study using a PowerPoint presentation. The topic about the novel coronavirus introduced what a virus is and what type of virus the Covid-19 is. This was to give the students basic understanding of what was causing the pandemic. This also included information on how this coronavirus affects the body and the symptoms of infection together with precautionary measures. The students also looked at how China fought this pandemic.
The topic about China’s great achievements was split into two sub-topics; innovation and technology in China, food and agriculture in China. The presentations included facts about different inventions that China produced, including in ancient China and in modern China, China’s production of specific types of food and where the food is farmed.
The students had to complete worksheets and posters for each topic. The worksheets assessed understanding of the content covered in the presentation. The posters allowed the students to express the views on the topic and to express their creativity.
Overall, “I love China” theme work was a success, the students were able to learn new information, share what they already know about the topics and to express themselves through their work.
