Last autumn, we went to a fire station for an outing. We saw a row of firemen standing straight with several dogs crouching behind them. It seemed that an eventful day was about to come.
First, we had a fire drill at the ‘underground’ station. It was so smoky and dark there that we couldn’t see anything. The firefighters told us to hold on to our friends’ shoulders and cover our mouths, so we could only use our hands to feel surroundings and got out of the ‘underground’ quickly.
Then, we had another fire drill in the ‘cinema’ on the twelfth floor of a building. The firefighters reminded us to bend down and avoid breathing in the smoke when the ‘fire’ broke out. The screen imitated the fire and the cinema was hot and suffocating. Through this activity, we learnt how to get out of danger fast.
At last, we went into a dark building and we were supposed to escape from it safe and sound. I was scared while entering the darkness, but the firefighters assured us that we didn’t need to be afraid at all. It was obviously a bit difficult for us to escape, but I tried hard and succeeded.
My main takeaway from this outing is that fire is very dangerous, so we can’t play with it. Also I learnt how to protect ourselves while in danger. For me, the visit to the fire station is really informative and unforgettable.
