Subject: The weather in Shanghai

Hello, Amy!

I am glad to receive your e-mail. How are you doing?

The weather in Shanghai is quite different from that in Australia. In Shanghai, winter comes in December. It is cold but it’s usually sunny. The wind hardly blows in the morning or at night. So, it’s nice for us to go out during the day. Many people usually wear colourful hats and gloves.

In China, the most important festival is the Spring Festival, it’s on the first day of the first lunar month. It presents the arrival of spring and people always clean their home thoroughly as people believe that cleaning is to clear out any bad luck from the previous year so that the house is ready for good luck of the coming new year. During the Spring Festival, people, especially children like wearing big new red clothes while black is forbidden because black is associated with death.

In my opinion, Spring Festival is the most delighted festival as families get together, and children are given gifts and red envelopes.

I truly invite you to come with me and my family during the Spring Festival. It’s well worth and it is a wonderful experience. Also, could you tell me which festival do you think is the most important?
